How to Replace the Fuel Pump on a 1996 Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger pickup truck comes with 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive transmissions. It may have a 6-cylinder 3.0L or a 6-cylinder 4.0L engine, and all versions of the Ford Ranger use electronic fuel injection. The fuel pump on this vehicle uses high pressure, and is located on the fuel tank. This makes it necessary to remove the fuel tank before replacing the fuel pump on a 1996 Ford Ranger.

Relieve the pressure in the fuel system, and disconnect the fuel tank. Clean the area around the attaching flange for the fuel pump with a shop rag. This will prevent dirt from getting into the fuel tank when you replace the fuel pump.
2Turn the locking ring on the fuel pump counter-clockwise with a locking ring removal tool. Remove the locking ring from the fuel pump. Disconnect the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank, including the bracket. Remove the gasket for the fuel pump.
3Apply a thin layer of heavy grease to the new fuel pump gasket, and install it into the ring groove on the fuel tank. Place the new fuel pump assembly into position in the fuel tank. Place the locking ring onto the fuel pump, and turn it clockwise until it locks into place.
4Connect the fuel tank onto the vehicle, and put at least ten gallons of gas into the fuel tank. Fix any fuel leaks, and connect a pressure gauge to the throttle body valve. Turn the ignition on for three seconds without starting the engine, and turn it off for three seconds. Repeat this at least five times to pressurize the fuel system to at least 30 pounds per square inch, or PSI.
5Check the vehicle and fix any leaks. Disconnect the pressure gauge, and start the engine. Check the vehicle again, and fix any leaks.

How to Replace the Fuel Pump in a 97 Lumina Car
The Chevrolet Lumina is a series of coupes, minivans and sedans manufactured from 1990 to 2001. The replacement fuel pump for these vehicles depends on the engine, which may be a six-cylinder 3.4 L engine or a 3.1 L engine. All versions of the 1997 Lumina have sequential fuel injection, meaning that the electric fuel pump on these vehicles uses high pressure to deliver fuel to the fuel injectors. You can access the fuel pump on most 1997 Luminas through a removable access panel in the trunk.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench, and remove the engine cover. Relieve the pressure in the fuel tank by loosening the filler cap for the fuel tank. Remove the cap for the fuel pressure port on the fuel rail, and connect special tool J 34730-1A to the fuel pressure port. Place the bleed hose for this special tool into a gasoline container. Open the valve on the special tool to bleed the fuel in the fuel system into the gasoline container.
2Drain the fuel tank to 1/4 of its capacity, and remove the jack, spare tire and spare tire cover from the trunk. Take out the trunk liner, and unfasten the retaining nuts for the access panel with a socket wrench. Remove the panel, and disconnect the electrical connector for the fuel pump.
3Clean the fuel sender assembly with a shop rag, and disconnect the quick-connect fittings from the fuel sender assembly. Remove the retaining snap ring on the fuel sender assembly with a socket wrench, so that the fuel sender assembly springs up. Remove the fuel sender assembly without handling the fuel pipes. Discard the old O-ring and clean the sealing surfaces for the O-ring.
4Place the new O-ring on the fuel tank and install the new fuel sender assembly onto the fuel tank. Avoid folding the fuel strainer and ensure that the fuel strainer does not impede the movement of the float arm for the fuel gauge after the installation is complete.
5Replace the retaining snap ring for the fuel sender assembly, and turn the snap ring clockwise with a socket wrench until it fully seats with the fuel tanks tab slots. Attach the electrical connector and quick-connect fittings to the fuel sender assembly. Connect the cable for the negative terminal on the battery, and fasten the filler cap for the fuel tank.
6Turn the ignition switch for 2 seconds, then turn it off for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition back on and check for leaks in the fuel system. Replace the access cover in the trunk and tighten the retaining nuts to 96 inch-pounds. Replace the trunk liner, jack, spare tire and spare tire cover.

How do I Replace the Fuel Pump on a 1996 Probe SE
The Ford Probe was a two-door coupe that Ford manufactured from 1989 to 1997. The 1996 model is a member of the second generation of Probes that includes the 1993 to 1997 models. Ford Probes may have a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine or a six-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine. All versions of this vehicle have multiport fuel injection, which requires a high-pressure fuel pump. You must remove the fuel tank of a Ford Probe in order to replace the fuel pump.

Start the engine and remove the fuel-pump relay in the engine compartment. Allow the engine to stall and turn off the ignition. Replace the fuel-pump relay.
2Drain the fuel tank and remove the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack. Disconnect the exhaust pipe and exhaust-pipe insulator. Remove the electrical connectors and fuel lines from the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank with jack stands and disconnect the support straps for the fuel tank. Lower the fuel tank from the vehicle with the jack stands.
3Detach the fuel lines from the fuel pump on the fuel tank. Turn the locking ring on the fuel pump counterclockwise with a brass drift and hammer. Disconnect the locking ring from the fuel pump and remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank. Discard the gasket.
4Put the new gasket into position on the fuel tank and install the new fuel pump. Turn the locking ring for the fuel pump clockwise until the flange on the locking ring reaches the stopper. Connect the fuel lines for the fuel pump.
5Connect the fuel tank to the vehicle and add at least 3 gallons of fuel to the fuel tank. Check the fuel system for leaks, and lower the vehicle. Connect the cable for the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench.

How to Install a Fuel Injector on a Ford F150
Ford F-150 fuel injectors are designed for long life. While regular cleaning will keep the fuel injectors performing well, fuel injectors have moving parts that wear out. Worn or broken fuel injectors result in inadequate or too much fuel being consumed during the combustion process. Incorrect fuel combustion may result in damage to the engine or catalytic converter. Fuel injectors which are worn or damaged should be replaced. To avoid future failures, if one fuel injector has gone bad due to wear and tear, replacement of all the injectors is recommended.
Instructions
Access the Fuel Injectors

Depressurize the fuel system. If your vehicle is equipped with a fuel safety cut-off switch--usually located on the passenger side front foot panel on the F-150--access and remove the electronic plug. This will disable the fuel pump. Turn on the engine several times to remove any fuel pressure in the lines. The engine will not stay started, this is normal.
2Disconnect the battery cables to avoid fire hazards when working with fuel.
3Remove any engine shroud, air intake tube, vacuum lines and other bolt-on accessories that restrict access to the fuel rails. Unbolt the fuel rail from the engine. The metal fuel rail will be braced to the engine with one or two bolts.
4Remove the fuel injector electronics plug from each injector to be replaced.
5Lift the fuel rails off the fuel injectors. Lift the end of the fuel rail closest to the bumper and pop each fuel injector free. Some injectors will stay in the engine and others will remain in the fuel rail. All injectors that are freed from either the engine or fuel rail will need new o-rings.
6Remove the fuel injector from both the engine and the fuel rail. Inspect the injector for missing o-rings. Two o-rings should exist, one for the top connection on the fuel rail, and one for the bottom connection to the engine. Locate the missing o-rings and discard.
Replace the Injectors

Replace the o-rings with new o-rings. Lubricate the new o-rings with motor oil and slide over the ends of the fuel injectors. New injectors commonly come with o-rings installed. Lubricate the pre-installed o-rings with motor oil. A drop of oil on your finger smeared on the o-ring is sufficient.
8Insert the new fuel injector into the engine hole. Press downward until the fuel injector is seated properly. A popping sensation may be felt, but not always. Pull upward on the injector. A properly seated injector will resist removal.
9Replace all o-rings on the injectors from which the fuel rail was removed. Replace the fuel rail on each injector.
10Bolt the fuel rail to the engine and replace any bolt-on accessories removed to access the fuel rail. Replace the fuel injector electronics plugs. Replace any vacuum lines removed. Replace the air intake tube. Replace the engine shroud, if equipped.
11Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the fuel safety cut-off switch plug. Turn the ignition key to the electronics only mode for five seconds and turn off. Repeat the ignition key on/off sequence twice to allow the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel line. Inspect the fuel rails for leaks and repair. If necessary, return to step 1.
12Start the vehicle to confirm installation.

How to Install Fuel Injectors on 94 95 Mustangs
The Mustang is a series of cars manufactured by the Ford Motor Company since 1964. The 1994 models were the first fourth generation Mustangs and represented a major redesign from the previous generation. The standard for the 1994 and 1995 Mustangs was a 6-cylinder 3.8-liter engine with electronic fuel injection. The fuel injector in these vehicles is located on top of the engine and is part of the fuel supply manifold assembly.

Open the fuel tank cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Connect fuel pressure gauge T80L-9974-B to the pressure relief valve on the fuel supply manifold. Place the open end of the hose for the fuel pressure gauge into a container approved for gasoline. Open the pressure gauge to relieve the pressure in the fuel system and disconnect the pressure gauge from the relief valve.
2Release the retaining clips for the fuel lines on the fuel supply manifold and remove the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator. Detach the fuel lines from the fuel supply manifold and disconnect the retaining bolts on the fuel supply manifold with a socket wrench.
3Rock the fuel rail assembly back and forth gently to detach it from the fuel injectors. Use the same technique to disconnect the fuel injectors from the intake manifold. Replace any damaged O-rings for the fuel injectors.
4Apply a thin layer of engine oil to the O-rings and install them on to the fuel injectors. Connect the fuel injectors to the fuel rail by gently pushing and twisting the fuel injectors. Install the fuel rail assembly onto the fuel supply manifold and ensure the O-rings are properly seated.
5Tighten the mounting bolts for the fuel supply manifold with a torque wrench. These mounting bolts require a torque of 15 to 22 foot-pounds for the 3.8-liter and 5.0-liter engines and 71 to 106 inch-pounds for the 4.6-liter engines. Connect the fuel lines to the fuel supply manifold and connect the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator. Attach the retaining clips for the fuel lines on the fuel supply manifold.
6Turn the ignition on for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system and start the engine. Check and correct any fuel leaks.

How to Replace the Fuel Pump on a 1991 Cougar
The Mercury Cougar is a model of car manufactured by the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. The 1991 Mercury Cougar is a full-size coupe that belongs to the seventh generation of these vehicles. It may have a six-cylinder 3.8L engine or an eight-cylinder 5.0L engine. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal on the battery with a socket wrench. Loosen the cap on the fuel tank and remove the cap for the fuel pressure relief valve on the fuel rail. Connect fuel pressure gauge T80L-9974-A to the relief valve and place its drain hose in a gasoline container. Open the pressure gauge and drain the fuel from the fuel system into the container. Disconnect the fuel pressure gauge.
2Raise the vehicle and support its rear end with jack stands. Siphon as much fuel from the fuel tank as possible and disconnect the filler hose from the fuel tank. Remove the exhaust pipe and exhaust shields from the fuel tank. Place a floor jack under the fuel tank and place a plank of wood on top of the fuel tank. Disconnect the nuts for the retaining strap on the fuel tank and lower the fuel tank slightly so you can disconnect the fuel lines electrical wiring from the fuel tank. Remove the air deflector from the retaining straps of the fuel tank. Lower the fuel tank and remove it from the vehicle.
3Clean the area around the retaining flange for the fuel pump on the fuel tank. Turn the locking ring for the fuel pump counterclockwise and detach the locking ring. Disconnect the fuel pump and bracket from the fuel tank and discard the seal ring.
4Clean the mounting flange for the fuel pump and the groove for the seal ring on the fuel tank. Apply a thin layer of grease to the new seal ring and place the seal ring into the groove on the fuel tank. Connect the new fuel pump and bracket to the fuel tank without damaging the fuel filter. Align the keys on the fuel pump with the holes on the mounting bracket. Install the locking ring to the fuel pump so that the locking tabs on the locking ring are under the ring tabs on the fuel tank. Turn the locking ring clockwise until it reaches the limit of its travel.
5Connect the fuel tank to the vehicle and lower the vehicle. Put at least 10 gallons of fuel in the fuel tank. Install a fuel pressure gauge on the relief valve and connect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Turn the ignition on for three seconds at a time until the fuel pressure reaches 35 psi. Remove the pressure gauge and cover the relief valve with the cap. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

How to Tell If Your Fuel Pump Is Broken
The fuel pump is an essential component of a vehicle. Fuel is pumped from the fuel tank to the engine. Without a functioning fuel pump, adequate fuel pressure cannot be delivered to the engine. This will cause problems such as hard starting, rough idle, misfiring, hesitation and stalling and can even prevent the car from starting . This may happen at the most inconvenient time. If you suspect that your fuel pump is broken, there are certain tests that you can perform to confirm it.

Listen for a humming sound that normally occurs when the key is turned to the "Start" position. Turn the key in the ignition to the "Start" position and listen for a humming sound from the fuel tank. A hum means that the pump is in working condition.
2Check if your fuel pump is broken by doing a static fuel test. Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position. Look at the fuel pressure gauge to detect movements. The fuel pressure should immediately come up and stay steady. If it doesnt, that can indicate that there is a defect in the fuel pump.
3Connect a voltage meter to the wires that connect to your fuel pump. Connect the voltage meter to the green wire. The fuel pump wires are located under the vehicle, behind the drivers door. Let someone start the engine while the voltage meter is connected to the wire. A normal reading is between 10 to 11 volts. If there is a zero reading, this usually mean that the fuel pump is bad.

How to Replace a 1993 Buick Century Fuel Pump
The Buick Century is a mid-size car manufactured by the Buick division of General Motors. The 1993 model belongs to the fifth generation of the Century, produced from 1982 to 1996. 2Disconnect the cable for the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. Raise the vehicle on jack stands and drain the fuel tank. Detach the electrical wiring from the fuel tank, including the ground wire under the body of the vehicle. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank with a jack stand and remove the nuts on the fuel tanks retaining strap with a socket wrench. Lower the fuel tank with the jack stand and remove it from the vehicle.
3Disconnect the fuel filter from the fuel pump by twisting it and pulling it off the fuel pump. Discard the fuel filter. Detach the electrical connector for the fuel sending unit and remove the fuel sending unit from the fuel tank. Pull the fuel pump from its mounting bracket on the fuel sending unit.
4Install the new fuel pump onto the fuel sender assembly between the mounting bracket and the pulsator. Connect the electrical connector for the fuel sender assembly. Place the fuel filter into position on the fuel pump and push the fuel filter until it is fully seated.
5Install the fuel sending unit onto the fuel tank and connect the fuel tank. Check the fuel system for leaks and connect the battery cable to the negative terminal of the battery with a socket wrench.

Do Faulty Fuel Pumps Burn More Gas
When a vehicles fuel delivery system is not working properly, one of the likely suspects is a faulty fuel pump. Issues, such as a higher than normal level of resistance in the ground connection of the fuel pump, could be causing the problems. In any event, a faulty fuel pump can certainly cause other issues within an automobile.
Fuel Consumption
A low fuel pressure reading often indicates that you have a faulty fuel pump. The voltage being supplied to the pump may not be high enough to spin the pump fast enough to build up the proper amount of pressure. This, in turn, leads to a vehicle burning more gas.
Hard Starting
When a fuel pump is not in operation, a vehicles fuel system should still maintain residual pressure for at least a few minutes. When this is not the case, its often because the check valve on the fuel pump is leaking. This can lead to hard starting in a vehicle.
Tips
If an in-tank fuel pump is faulty and needs replacing, the battery always should be disconnected first. This will keep sparks from occurring during the replacement procedure.

How to Install a Fuel Pump in a 1984 GMC S 15
The 1984 GMC S-15 truck with the six-cylinder, 2.8-liter engine is carbureted instead of fuel-injected. As such, the fuel pump on this truck is mounted on the side of the engine block and driven by a cam on the camshaft. If the fuel pump isnt working properly, you can experience poor performance, stalling, and even backfiring. You can change the fuel pump n the 1984 S-15 in about an hour to two hours in your front yard.

Slide the jack under the front frame cross member, and lift the truck until there is enough room for you to comfortably slide under.
2Place the jack stands under the frame behind both front wheels, and caully lower the truck onto them. Remove the jack.
3Slide under the truck, and locate the pump on the lower left front side of the engine. Tag the fuel lines if they are both threaded fittings so you know which line goes where.
4Remove the fuel lines from the pump. Most fuel pumps will have two threaded fittings; remove these using the flare nut wrenches and turning the fittings counterclockwise. If either of the connections has a rubber hose clamped to it, squeeze the clamp with the pliers, and slide it back on the hose a few inches. Grasp the fuel line, and twist and pull it off the pump nipple.
5Remove the bolts securing the fuel pump to the block by turning them counterclockwise with the ratchet and socket. Remove the fuel pump by pulling it away from the engine.
6Clean the block side mating surface of all remnants of the old gasket using the gasket scraper.
7Apply a thin bead of RTV sealant to both the block and pump mating surfaces. Apply the gasket to block mating surface.
8Hold the new fuel pump in place, and insert the bolts in the bolt holes, and turn them clockwise by hand. Tighten these bolts to 15 foot-pounds with the ratchet and socket.
9Reattach the fuel lines to the pump. For threaded fittings, thread the fittings into the new pump by turning them clockwise by hand. Tighten the fittings to 15 foot-pounds using the flare nut wrench. If so equipped, slip the rubber fuel line over the nipple. Squeeze the clamp, and slide it over the nipple.
10Slide the jack back under the front cross member, and lift the truck off the jack stands. Remove the jack stands, and lower the truck. Start the truck, and verify there are no leaks.

How to Change Fuel Injectors on a 1994 Nissan Maxima
The Nissan Maxima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1976. The third generation of this vehicle was in production from 1989 to 1994 and represented a major redesign. All versions of the 1994 Nissan Maxima have a 6-cylinder 3.0-liter engine with sequential fuel injection. The fuel injectors are on top of the engine and their replacement also requires you to remove the fuel rails.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench to prevent the battery from producing sparks. Remove the collector for the intake manifold. Detach the hoses on the fuel pressure regulator and fuel rails.
2Detach the electrical connectors for the fuel injector and disconnect the mounting bolts for the fuel rail with a socket wrench. Lift the fuel rail assembly from the engine.
3Remove the retainer screws for the fuel injector with a socket wrench and press the fuel injector from the fuel rail. Discard the O-rings for the fuel injector and apply a thin layer of engine oil to the new O-rings.
4Install the O-rings to the new fuel injector and press the fuel injector into the fuel rail. Fasten the retainer screws for the fuel injector with a socket wrench.
5Place the fuel rail assembly onto the engine. Torque the fuel rail mounting bolts to between 6.9 and 8.0 ft. lbs. with a socket wrench, then torque them to between 15 and 20 ft.lbs.
6Attach the fuel lines to the fuel rail assembly and connect the hoses to the fuel pressure regulator. Connect the electrical connector for the fuel injectors and install the collector for the intake manifold with a socket wrench. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

How to Change the Fuel Pump in a 1993 Dodge Spirit
The Dodge Spirit is a mid-size sedan manufactured from 1989 to 1995. Most 1993 models have a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine that uses throttle-body injection, or TBI. TBI is an early form of fuel injection developed in the 1980s that used low fuel pressure, typically in the range of 10 to 15 pounds per square inch. The fuel pump on the 1993 Dodge Spirit is integrated with the fuel sender into a single unit. The replacement of the fuel pump on this vehicle requires you to disconnect the fuel tank.

Disconnect the cable to the batterys negative terminal with a socket wrench to prevent an accidental spark from the battery. Drain the fuel in the fuel tank by siphoning the fuel into a gasoline container. Raise the vehicle with a jack, and support it on jack stands. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle. Squeeze the retainer tabs on the fuel supply line and fuel return lines. Disconnect these fuel lines from the fuel pump module.
2Remove the mounting bolts from the fuel pump module with a socket wrench. Disconnect the wiring on top of the fuel pump module, and remove the nut for the fuel pumps lower bracket with a socket wrench. Remove the hose clamp from the fuel pump, and disconnect the outlet hose from the fuel pump. Remove the clamp for the inlet hose on the fuel pump, and disconnect the inlet hose.
3Tilt the fuel pump to avoid damage to the float arm and fuel filter. Remove the lower gasket. Remove the fuel pump from the faceplate of the fuel tank. Remove the lower bracket and upper gasket from the fuel pump.
4Place the new upper gasket onto the new fuel pump. Connect the fuel pump to the upper bracket and outlet hose. Attach the hose clamp to the outlet hose. Place the new lower gasket into the lower bracket, and fasten the bolt for the lower bracket with a socket wrench. Connect the inlet hose to the fuel pump, and attach its hose clamp. Connect the electrical wiring for the fuel pump.
5Install the fuel pump module so the filter on the fuel pump module fits into the tray on the fuel tank. Align the bottom gasket so its holes align with the corresponding holes on the fuel tank. Attach the fuel pump module to the fuel tank by tilting it as necessary to clear the float arm and fuel filter. Use a socket wrench to fasten the fuel pump module to the fuel tank with the mounting bolts.
6Connect the fuel supply line and fuel return line to the fuel pump module. Install the fuel tank, and lower the vehicle. Fill the fuel tank with fuel, and connect the cable for the batterys negative terminal with a socket wrench. Start the engine, and check for fuel leaks.

How to 1998 Chevy Metro Fuel Pump Replacement
Suzuki markets the Suzuki Cultus under a variety of names, including the Chevrolet Metro, Geo Metro and Suzuki Swift. The engine for the 1998 Chevy Metro is a four-cylinder 1.3-liter engine with multiport fuel injection. This type of fuel injection requires the fuel pump to deliver fuel under high pressure. The fuel pump for the 1998 Chevy Metro is in the fuel tank, so you must remove the fuel tank when you replace the fuel pump.

Open the cap for the fuel tank, and remove the control relay in the fuse box. Start the engine, and allow it to stall. Crank the engine for a few seconds to ensure no fuel remains in the fuel system. Disconnect the cable on the negative terminal of the battery with a socket wrench to ensure you dont accidentally start the engine.
2Remove the rear seat cushion, and disconnect the electrical wiring for the fuel gauge in the bottom of the rear seat. Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter, and connect the open end of the fuel line to a hose. Siphon the fuel from the fuel tank into a gasoline container.
3Disconnect the hoses for the fuel pipes on the fuel tank. Detach the fuel filler hose and breather hose from the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank with jack stands, and disconnect the mounting bolts for the fuel tank with a socket wrench. Lower the fuel tank from the vehicle.
4Release the clamps for the fuel hoses to the fuel pump assembly. Remove the mounting screws for the fuel pump assembly with a socket wrench, and detach the electrical connector for the fuel pump. Lift the fuel pump assembly and gasket from the fuel tank.
5Install the new fuel pump by reversing steps 1 through 4. Fill the fuel tank, and turn on the ignition to pressurize the fuel system. Start the engine, and check for fuel leaks.

1989 Ford F150 Fuel Injector Installation
The Ford F-Series is a line of full-size pickup trucks in continuous production since 1948. The F150 models have a nominal carrying capacity of at least 1/2 ton, although the actual payload is typically more than 1/2 ton. A 1989 Ford F150 has a variety of engine choices and all of them come with fuel injection. The procedure for installing a fuel injector in this vehicle will vary slightly depending on the size of the engine.

Disconnect the cable on the negative terminal of the battery with a socket wrench. Loosen the cap on the fuel tank to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Remove the valve cap from the fuel pressure relief valve on the fuel line in the upper right quadrant of the engine compartment.
2Attach pressure gauge T80L-9974-A to the relief valve and open the pressure gauge to relieve the pressure in the fuel system. Remove the pressure gauge from the relief valve and place the cap on the relief valve.
3Disconnect the upper intake manifold with a socket wrench. Remove the fuel rail and detach the electrical connection for each fuel injector.
4Remove the fuel injectors from the lower intake manifold by rocking the fuel injectors gently back and forth while pulling up. Replace any worn O-rings or plastic caps for the fuel injectors.
5Apply engine oil to the O-rings and put them on the new fuel injectors. Place the plastic caps onto the top of the fuel injectors. Install the fuel injectors onto the lower intake manifold by pushing them in gently as you rock them back an forth.
6Attach the electrical wiring to the fuel injection and install the fuel rail. Connect the upper intake manifold if you removed it in Step 3. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench.

Installation Instructions for a Fuel Pressure Regulator in a Civic
The Honda Civic is a line of subcompact and compact cars made by Honda since 1973. The models made from 2006 to 2010 are compacts with several choices of engines, most often a four-cylinder 1.8-liter engine. These vehicles use mult-port fuel injection, which requires a fuel pressure regulator to control the pressure in the fuel lines. The fuel pressure regulator in recent model Honda Civics is located under the rear seat and is part of the fuel tank unit.

Open the filler cap for the fuel tank to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Remove the fuse for the fuel pump under the dashboard and start the engine. Allow the engine to run until it stalls and replace the fuse for the fuel pump. Disconnect the cable for the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench to prevent the discharge of fuel into the fuel system.
2Remove the cushion from the rear seat of the vehicle and pull the upper cross-member from the rear floor. Disconnect the retaining screws for the access panel with a socket wrench and remove the access panel. Detach the electrical connector from the fuel tank unit; release the quick-connect fittings from the fuel tank unit.
3Turn the locknut counterclockwise with Locknut Wrench 07AAA-SNAA100 to loosen the it. Remove the locknut from the fuel tank unit; detach the fuel tank unit from the fuel tank.
4Disconnect the bracket and O-ring from the fuel tank unit. Detach the fuel pressure regulator from the rest of the fuel tank unit and discard the O-ring.
5Lubricate the new O-rings with engine oil and mount the new O-ring onto the new fuel pressure regulator. Connect the bracket to the fuel pressure regulator. Align the marks on the fuel tank unit with those on the fuel tank unit and install the fuel tank unit.
6Mount the locknut onto the fuel tank unit. Turn the locknut clockwise with Locknut Wrench 07AAA-SNAA100 until it locks into place. Attach the quick-connect fittings and the electrical connectors for the fuel tank unit.
7Replace the access panel and fasten its retaining screws with a socket wrench. Replace the upper cross-member in the rear floor and install the rear seat cushion. Connect the cable for the negative battery terminal.

Tools for Carburetor Fuel Air Mixes
The function of a carburetor is to regulate the engines fuel air mixture. If the mixture is too rich, meaning the air content is too low, increased carbonization of the engine can occur. It can also decrease engine performance and increase the chances of smoking. If the mixture is too lean, or the air content is too high, there is less lubrication to the engine which could cause cylinder scoring. Maintaining the proper fuel air ratio is necessary to avoid these problems. This can be done by adjusting the fuel air mix. For most carburetor models, special tools are required to adjust the carburetor. These tools adjust carburetor-specific screws which are now used on most models to prevent adjustment by non-EPA-certified mechanics. Five different carburetor adjustment tools are currently on the market.
Single "D"-shaped Tool
The single "D"-shaped carburetor adjustment tool is used to adjust the tamper-proof adjustment screw found on some carburetor models. Both the tool and the tamper-proof adjustment screw are "D"-shaped. The adjustment of the screw changes the amount of air that is allowed into the engine. By turning the screw in, the amount of air allowed into the engine is reduced, creating a rich fuel air mixture. By turning the screw out, the amount of air allowed into the engine is increased, creating a lean fuel air mixture.
Double "D"-shaped Tool
The double "D"-shaped carburetor tool is used to adjust the double "D"-shaped tamper proof adjustment screw on small engine carburetors. This is done while the engine is running and has had a chance to warm up. This is because the carburetor settings will change once the engine has warmed up.
Hex-shaped Tool
The hex-shaped carburetor adjustment tool is used to adjust the tamper-proof adjustment screw on both small and large engines. The tamper-proof adjustment screw is generally blocked with a cap by the manufacturer to prevent adjustment of the carburetor by non-licensed professionals. Special tools are required for the removal of the cap. The distribution of the cap removal tools are also regulated by the EPA.
Pac-man-shaped Tool
The pac-man-shaped tool is used for the tamper-proof adjustment screw on some Walbro and Zama carburetor models. These tools are also referred to as V-notch carburetor adjustment tools. They are offered to certified mechanics through MTD distributors.
Splined Tool
The splined carburetor adjustment tool is generally used to adjust the tamper-proof adjustment screw on Poulan and Weedeater carburetors. These tamper-proof adjustment screws have four sets of splines each spaced 90 degrees apart.

How to Fit a Subaru Impreza Fuel Pressure Regulator
The Subaru Impreza is a compact car manufactured since 1993. The installation procedure for a fuel pressure regulator in an Impreza depends primarily on the engine. A late-model Impreza has several choices of engines, with the most common being a 4-cylinder 2.5-liter engine. The fuel pressure regulator for this engine is on the fuel rail next to the fuel injectors and is accessible from the top of the engine compartment.

Detach the electrical connector from the fuel pump relay to disable the fuel pump. Start the engine and allow it to stall. Engage the starter for at least five seconds to ensure the fuel system is empty. Attach the electrical connector for the fuel pump relay.
2Remove the cable to the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. This ensures you dont start the engine inadvertently while replacing the fuel pressure regulator. Detach the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator.
3Disconnect the nuts that attach the fuel line to the fuel pressure regulator with a socket wrench. Detach the fuel line and remove the clamp on the fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the regulator and discard its O-ring.
4Mount a new O-ring onto the new fuel pressure regulator and install the fuel pressure regulator. Attach the clamp and connect the fuel line to the fuel pressure regulator with a socket wrench. Attach the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator.
5Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

How to Change the Fuel Pump on a 95 Ford 7 3 Diesel
An 8-cylinder 7.3-liter diesel engine is one of the engines that Ford uses in full-size pickup trucks. This engine is most common in the F-250 3/4-ton and F-350 full-ton pickup truck. The fuel system for this engine requires the fuel pump to deliver fuel under high pressure. The fuel pump for this engine is located in the engine compartment on top of the engine. A turbocharged engine will also require you to remove the turbocharger prior to replacing the fuel pump.
Instructions

Disconnect the banjo bolt for the fuel line on the fuel pump with a socket wrench. Remove the fittings for the fuel line at the rear of the cylinder heads and discard the old seal rings. Release the clamps for the fuel pump lines on the front of the fuel pump and detach the fuel lines.
2Disconnect the drain hose from the fuel filter and remove the fuel filter with a socket wrench. Loosen the retaining bolts for the fuel pump retaining bolts and pull the fuel pump from the crankcase. Discard the O-ring and disconnect the tappet of the fuel pump from the crankcase bore.
3Connect the fuel pump tappet to the base of the new fuel pump and replace the O-ring on the fuel pump. Install the new fuel pump into the crankcase and fasten the mounting bolts with a socket wrench.
4Install the fuel filter and fasten its mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Attach the drain hose to the fuel filter and connect the fuel lines to the front of the fuel pump. Tighten the clamps on the fuel line and install new seal rings on the rear of the fuel pump.
5Install the fittings for the fuel lines towards the rear of the cylinder heads without tightening them. Install the banjo bolt onto the fuel pump and tighten it to 40 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench. Tighten the fittings for the fuel line with a socket wrench.

How to Repair a Fuel Injector Leak
Fuel injectors operate in conjunction with a high pressure fuel system. The fuel injector head is connected to the fuel line and engine through a O-ring seal. The O-ring allows the injector to be seated, in both the fuel line and engine, without requiring bolts, screws or threaded connectors. Injector leaks stemming from poor O-ring connections may be caused by O-ring shrinkage, exposure to high heat, chemical decomposition, or tears in the O-ring material. Leaks coming directly from the injector require full injector replacement. Replace O-rings whenever an injector is removed from the fuel line or engine, for best results.
Instructions

Pressurize the fuel system by turning the ignition key to the "electronics only" mode. The fuel pump will turn on pressurize the fuel lines. If in doubt, turn on the vehicle briefly.
2Lift the hood. Inspect the fuel injectors and connections for leaks. If fuel is leaking from the injector seal at the fuel line -- the point at which the injector connects to the fuel rail -- the leak is most likely due to O-ring failure. If the fuel is leaking directly from the injector, the injector needs to be replaced. Fuel leaks inside the engines cylinders, often reported by the on-board computer as lean or rich conditions, will require injector replacement.
3Depressurize the fuel system. Remove the plug to the fuel safety cut-off switch, if equipped, to disable the fuel pump. Fuel safety cut-off switch locations can be found in the vehicles owners manual. Attempt to start the vehicle several times to use any remaining fuel. Remove the ignition key and disconnect the battery.
Injector Removal

Remove any vehicle components restricting access to the fuel line. Air intakes, electronics, vacuum hoses and components should all be carefully labeled to ensure they are correctly reinstalled when you are finished servicing the vehicle. Disconnect the fuel injector plug.
5Disconnect the fuel rail from the fuel injector. Some fuel rails are bolted to the engine. Remove any bolts which prevent removal of the fuel rail. Pull the rail directly away from the fuel injector to disengage the seal. A small amount of fuel may spill from the rail, once the rail is lifted from the injector. Wipe up any fuel before continuing.
6Grasp the injector with your hands, to avoid tool damage to the injector, and pull directly away from the engine to remove the injector. Rock the injector if the seal is tight. You may feel a slight popping sensation when the injector releases.
7Inspect the fuel injector for physical damage. Cracked or damaged injectors should be replaced.
8Remove the O-rings from the top and bottom of the injector. Clean the injector head and nozzle with a brake parts cleaner saturated cloth and allow to dry.
Leak Fixing

Install new O-rings on the removed injectors. Coat the O-rings with a small amount of motor oil. The motor oil will lubricate the O-rings during installation to help prevent small tears during the seating process and help prevent the breakdown of the O-ring during use. Slide an O-ring over each end of the injector until the O-ring is seated in the gap provided for the seal.
10Grasp the injector with your hand and push the injector into the injector hole on the engine. You may feel a small pop as the injector becomes seated. When correctly installed, the injector will resist removal.
11Press the fuel line onto the injector head, until it is firmly seated.
12Reconnect the fuel injector plug. Reattach the fuel rail to the engine, if required. Connect any engine components initially removed to provide access to the fuel injectors. Connect the battery.
13Reconnect the fuel safety cut-off switch, if disabled. Turn on the vehicle for 15 seconds to allow the fuel lines to pressurize. Check for leaks. Start the vehicle to confirm installation.

How to Remove the Fuel Pump in a 1996 GMC Yukon
The GMC Yukon is a full-size sport utility vehicle. The 1996 model has a standard 8-cylinder, 5.7-liter engine with sequential fuel injection. The fuel pump in this vehicle must maintain a high level of pressure in the fuel system. The fuel pump is mounted in the fuel tank, so you must remove the fuel tank before you can remove the fuel pump.
Instructions

Disconnect the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench to prevent the unintentional discharge of fuel. Open the fuel tanks filler cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Siphon as much fuel from the fuel tank as possible with a hose. Drain the fuel into a gasoline container.
2Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support it on jack stands. Disconnect the filler neck and fuel vent tube from the fuel tank. Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack and remove the support straps for the fuel tank with a socket wrench.
3Lower the fuel tank slightly with the transmission jack so you can disconnect the electrical wiring and fuel hoses to the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel tank from the vehicle and move it to a work area.
4Turn the locking ring on the fuel pump assembly counterclockwise with a hammer and brass punch. Remove the locking ring and pull the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank. Detach the fuel pump from the rest of the fuel pump assembly.
5Pull the fuel pump away from its bottom support without damaging the rubber insulator or fuel strainer. Pull the fuel pump out of the rubber connector after it is clear of the bottom support.
