How to Remove the Dash from a Buick Park Avenue
There is no time like the present for replacing that ugly, faded and probably cracked dashboard in your Buick Park Avenue. The good news is that doing so is a fairly easy job. In fact, the only difficulty will involve removing the parts that are designed to prevent dashboard removal. You will need only a couple of tools to complete the job, and before you know it the interior of your Buick Park Avenue will be good as new.

Remove the edges of the trim adjacent to doors and beneath the steering wheel. The trim is what keeps the dash in place and covers all of the wiring. Wedge the flat-head screwdriver under the trim that runs alongside the windshield by the doors and pop the dash loose. Remove these trim pieces and set them aside. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen any remaining mounting bolts securing the steering wheel trim.
2Loosen the trim along the edges near the doors and under the steering wheel. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry under the edges of the trim running down the side of the windshield near the doors and pop the trim loose. Slide the trim pieces out of the car and set aside. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the five to eight mounting bolts holding the steering wheel trim in place. Pull the trim down and discard it.
3Grab the temperature control knobs with a pliers and give a sharp tug. Use the pliers to pry off the radio knobs as well. If you cant pry the knobs off, turn them counterclockwise, as occasionally the knobs screw into the dash.

How do I Remove the SRS Airbag From a 2002 Dodge
You can remove the SRS airbags from your 2002 Dodge without taking the car to a mechanic. Airbags are considered to be an essential safety element, but there are some people who are worried about rare injuries that can occur from the airbag deploying. Removing the airbags is a fairly easy procedure and only requires a couple of simple tools. Just make sure to always keep your face and body away from the front of the airbag as you remove it to prevent injury to yourself.

Raise the front hood of your Dodge and loosen the retaining nuts on the battery cable clamps. Slide the clamps off of the battery terminals one at a time. Wait 30 minutes for the battery charge to drain out.
2Consult your owners manual to find the location of the airbag fuses. Then open the fuse panel cover that can be found on the drivers-side dashboard. Remove the fuse puller and use it to remove the airbag fuses.
3Remove the screws on the back of the steering column with a screwdriver and caully remove the airbag from the middle of the steering wheel. Cut the wires attached to it using wire cutters. Set the airbag in a safe location away from people and pets.
4Open up the glove box and unhook the straps that hold it open. Unscrew the screws holding the glove box in place and pull the entire glove box out of the dashboard. Unbolt the airbag very caully using the socket wrench. Unhook the power cable at the rear of the airbag. Remember to keep your body and face away from the airbag. Slide the airbag out of the compartment.
5Put the glove box back in the compartment, screw in the screws and reattach the straps. Close the glove box cover.
6Put the airbag fuses back into their proper places within the fuse panel and close up the fuse panel cover. Reconnect the battery cables and tighten the retaining nuts.

How to Remove a Head From an F 250
The Ford "F" series of full-size pickups use the model number to indicate the rated carrying capacity of the vehicle. For example, an F-250 has a payload capacity of about 2500 pounds, and newer models can carry more than this. The standard engine options for the F-250 include 5.4-liter and 6.8-liter gasoline engines. These engines have two cylinder heads, each covering half of the cylinders. The procedure for removing the cylinder heads is generally the same for all F-250 trucks made since 2001 with gasoline engines.

Remove the air conditioner from the vehicle to access the cylinder heads on top of the engine block. This generally requires a professional mechanic with special equipment to avoid releasing rigerant gas into the atmosphere.
2Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench to ensure the engine does not start accidentally. Remove the covers for the cylinder heads.
3Remove the intake manifold from the engine block with a socket wrench. Disconnect the timing chains from their sprockets. Remove the exhaust manifolds from the engine.
4Disconnect the two retaining bolts for the heater hose with a socket wrench. Squeeze the clamp together, and slide it down the hose to release the hose. Detach the heater hose from the engine block. Remove all additional electrical connectors and hoses needed to access the cylinder heads in your F250.
5Remove the mounting bolts for the cylinder heads with a socket wrench, and lift the cylinder heads from the engine block. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket from the engine block. Clean all traces of the gasket from the engine block with a gasket scraper.

The system uses an assortment of clamps and hangers to support the exhaust components, as well as to isolate them from excessive vibration. 5Raise the vehicle from the jack stands and remove them. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

How to Remove the Crank Pulley From the 1997 Eclipse
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a two-door coupe or convertible, and is also sold as the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser. It has been available in the United States since 1990, and the second generation of the Eclipse includes the 1995 through 1999 models. The timing belt is mounted on the crankshaft pulley and camshaft pulley, allowing the crankshaft to drive the camshaft. The removal procedure for the crankshaft pulley in a 1997 Eclipse also requires you to lift the engine in some cases.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. This prevents anyone from starting the engine during the crankshaft pulley removal.
2Remove the undercover for the engine with a socket wrench to gain access to the crankshaft pulley.
3Raise the engine slightly with an engine hoist to remove some of the weight from the side engine mounts, and hold the engine in this position. Perform this step only if your 1997 Eclipse has a turbocharged engine or a 2.4-liter engine.
4Disconnect the bracket for the engine side mount with a socket wrench to access the crankshaft pulley. Detach the accessory drive belts from the crankshaft pulley.
5Disconnect the mounting bolt for the crankshaft pulley with a socket wrench. Remove the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft.

Pull the front seats as far forward as possible. Open both rear doors. Pull up and forward on the rear drivers side front of the seat cushion in the backseat and remove it from the vehicle. Do the same for the other seat cushion.
2Remove the nuts from both of the mounts on the backseat using a socket wrench.
3Move the seat belt mount away from the mount on the backseat.
4Push up on the middle part of the backseat. Pull it forward to release it from the hooks. Remove the backseat from the vehicle.

How to Remove the Light Switch From the Panel in a 2008 Dodge Dakota
The headlight switch assembly on the dash of your 2008 Dodge Dakota does more then just turn the lights on and off; do not put off replacing a faulty switch. The switch controls the interior lights, the dash lights, parking or running lights and the headlights. A faulty switch will often cause other functions to fail; if the switch fails altogether, youll find yourself with no headlights at all and unable to drive your truck. Look for replacement switches at any auto parts retailer or your local Dodge dealer.

Locate the retaining screws on the instrument panel of your Dakota, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver and set them aside. Pop the bezel off the instrument panel using a flat-blade screwdriver. Set the bezel aside for safekeeping.
2Locate the three retaining bolts on the face of the headlight switch assembly---two on the outboard edge and one on the inboard side---then remove them using a socket and ratchet. Set the bolts aside for reuse during installation.
3Slide the headlight switch assembly forward until you can reach the electrical connector on the rear of the assembly. Press the locking tab in on the connector, and separate the connector from the rear of the headlight switch. Pull the headlight switch out of the dash, and discard it.
4Slide the new headlight switch assembly into the dash far enough to allow the electrical connector to reach it. Push the connector onto the back of the switch, ensuring that the locking tab engages completely.
5Push the switch in place, and install the three retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet until they are just snug enough to hold the switch securely but wont crack its plastic casing.
6Position the instrument panel bezel in place, snapping it into the retaining clips. Install the retaining screws and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver only until they are just snug enough not hold the bezel in place without damaging it.
7Turn on the headlight switch, and cycle the headlights through the high- and low-beam positions several times to ensure a successful repair.

Removing Titanium From a Catalytic Converter
Catalytic Converter Removal
In order to remove titanium material from inside a vehicles catalytic converter, the converter must first be removed completely from the vehicles exhaust system. Normally, catalytic converter removal is accomplished by unscrewing the bolts that bolt a converter to the exhaust system or by cutting off the converter with a saw or welding torch. Complete removal of a catalytic converter from a vehicle allows easy access to its inner catalyst material--the part that contains the titanium pieces. After removing the titanium pieces (along with the catalyst material), the catalytic converter is no longer legal for vehicle use and must be discarded.
Removal of Catalyst Material
After removing a catalytic converter from a vehicle, the next step toward removing the inner titanium pieces is to remove the catalytic converters catalyst material thats located deep inside the converter. These catalyst pieces, which look very similar to small pieces of charcoal, are the parts of a catalytic converter that burn the unburned exhaust gases as exhaust flows through a catalytic converter. These pieces can be removed simply by standing the catalytic converter lengthwise up--one open end facing up, the other end facing the ground--and tapping and pounding on the raised end until the catalyst pieces start to fall out of the bottom end. This process normally takes only a few minutes to retrieve all the pieces.
Manual Removal of Titanium Pieces
After the catalytic converter catalyst material has been removed from inside, the titanium--which is used as a coating on the catalyst material--can easily be removed. The titanium normally appears as a silvery bronze coating atop the catalyst pieces. It can be scraped and/or gouged off each individual titanium piece by using a small knife, spoon or small instrument. A small rag or cup can be used to gather the removed titanium pieces. This can take quite awhile on some of the larger, more expensive catalytic converter models with large amounts of both catalyst material and titanium coating.

How to Convert From R12 to R134a
Every vehicle manufactured with an air-conditioning system prior to 1994 contains R12 rigerant. Since then, the EPA determined that R12 is harmful to the environment, and the Clean Air Act banned the use of such ozone-depleting substances. A more environmentally conscious alternative is available that requires few new parts and can be completed at home with little professional help. Retrofit your cars R12 system to a more efficient R134a cooling system.

Drive your vehicle to a certified air-conditioning repair shop. Allow a qualified technician to remove all remaining R12 rigerant from your system using a rigerant recovery system. Federal law prohibits the release of this gas into the air.
2Instruct the repair shop to flush the system to remove all traces of mineral oil. This will also remove any solid contaminates from the compressor. Mineral oil is not compatible with R134a PAG (polyalkylene glycol) oil, and mixing them could lead to compressor failure. Another option is to use ester oil, which is compatible with both R12 and R134a rigerants.
3Return home to complete the conversion. Begin by attaching the new adapters to the old valves. There are two valves: the high-pressure valve is the larger one, and the low-pressure valve is the smaller one. The low-pressure valve is on the line that runs from the accumulator to the compressor, and the high-pressure valve is on the line from the compressor to the condenser. The adapters screw onto the existing ports on the old R12 system, and will attach only one way so you cannot screw them onto the wrong valve. Check the repair manual for a diagram if you are unsure of the location of the valves.
4Inspect the valves, hoses and pressure switches for any signs of wear or excessive oil buildup. Replace any parts that leak or show excessive wear so the R134a rigerant will not leak from the same place. R134a has much smaller molecules than R12, so a small R12 leak could be a large R134a leak.
5Check your vehicles repair manual for the exact amount of oil to add to the compressor via the low-pressure fitting to lubricate the system. Use the oil and hose included in the conversion kit.
6Connect the can of R134a to the hose included in the conversion kit. Turn the T-valve directly on top of the can to puncture it, then very slowly turn it the opposite direction to release a small amount of rigerant from the hose. This removes all air from the hose so it will not be trapped in the system.
7Close the T-valve fully and connect the other end of the hose to the low-pressure valve on the line from the accumulator to the compressor. The hose will fit only the low-pressure valve.
8Turn on the vehicle and run the air conditioner at the coldest setting. Hold the can of rigerant upright and open the T-valve to allow the rigerant to go into the air-conditioning system. The compressor may not turn on instantly. There is a cutoff switch to prevent damage from low system pressure. Once enough rigerant fills the system, the compressor will engage.
9Watch the gauge on the hose connected to the can of R134a to add the appropriate amount of rigerant to the system. Overfilling or underfilling may affect the systems cooling ability. Once the system is full, turn the T-valve completely off and remove the other end from the low-pressure fitting.
10Place the plastic caps on the low- and high-pressure fittings and apply the retrofit R134a label in a prominent place to indicate that the vehicle uses R134a rigerant. The caps and label are included in the conversion kit.

How to Clear Trouble Codes From My 1995 Dodge Truck
1995 Dodge trucks use a system called an On-Board Diagnostics computer to monitor the vital functions of the vehicles. When any of a trucks systems fail, it causes a warning light to illuminate on the instrument panel. The computer also keeps track of the trucks regular servicing needs. After the Dodge has been serviced or repaired, you or your mechanic will need to clear the trouble codes from the computer using a diagnostic code scanner. This can be purchased from any auto parts store.
Instructions

Open the drivers door and find the diagnostic scanner port. You can find it on the underside of the drivers dash.
2Push the diagnostic code scanners connector cable into the diagnostic port on the Dodge.
3Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "run" position, taking care not to start the engine.
4Search the trouble codes using the instructions in the manual that came with the scanner. When it is finished, press the command "Clear Trouble Codes."
5Disconnect the scanner and turn on the engine. Verify that all warning and service lights have shut off.

How to Remove the Muffler From a Car

Prepare the car for muffler removal by jacking it up with a standard car jack or putting it up on car ramps. Since the muffler is located underneath the car, youll have to be able to access that area and move around well enough to do the required work.
2Put on protective goggles before starting the actual removal work. A muffler can be rusty, and small chips can easily fly up into your eyes. Goggles will protect them from any debris that might fly around while you do the cutting and prying required to remove the muffler. You may also wish to wear work gloves to protect your hands from cuts.
3Lubricate the muffler clamp nut with a coating of penetration oil, and apply the oil to the fittings as well. These parts tend to be dusty and dirty because of their position underneath the car, which exposes them continually to dirt. The oil will make them easier to manipulate and remove.
4Remove the nuts that connect the muffler to the exhaust pipes. If the oil does not loosen the nuts well enough to be turned for removal, or if the muffler is welded in place, cut the connecting pipes with your hacksaw. Then, remove muffler nuts from the hanger using your impact wrench. Allow it to drop down so it can be loosened from the rear mounts.
5Using the pry bar, complete the removal process by removing the muffler from the rubber straps that are keeping it in place. You can now take the car down from the jack or ramps.

What Are the Benefits of Removing the Catalytic Converters From Cars
Catalytic converters, which are responsible for igniting and burning unburned engine exhaust gases, became standard automotive equipment on all cars beginning with model year 1975. Although catalytic converters help to make engine exhaust gases cleaner, they are not without their minuses. What follows is a brief list of the potential benefits of removing automotive catalytic converters.
Increased Horsepower
Cars that have their catalytic converters removed experience an increase in engine horsepower. Catalytic converters create a significant source of engine back-pressure due to the constrictive effects they have on exiting engine exhaust gases. Removal of catalytic converters from cars allows exhaust gases to exit their engines much faster and at higher levels.
Better Gas Mileage

A car with no catalytic converter will be able to run on a variety of lead-based and/or high-performance fuels that would not be possible with a catalytic converter.
Healthier Exhaust Sound
Catalytic converters operate like car mufflers, whose sole purpose is to muffle the sound of exiting engine exhaust gases. Although catalytic converters burn unburned exhaust gases exiting an engine, thus making tail pipe emissions cleaner, they also further muffle a cars exhaust sound and bestow a somewhat timid, tempered exhaust sound. Without a catalytic converter, a cars exhaust sound becomes a little louder, a little deeper and more distinctive.

How to Remove Surface Scratches From Cars
Road debris and improper washing techniques can leave surface scratches in your cars paint job. Over time, these surface scratches can cause the paint to look dull and old. Removing the surface scratches in the paint is a simple process that will restore the shine to your cars paint.

Wash the entire car, working from the top down, using detergent specifically designed for washing cars. This prevents the wax coating on the car from being stripped off by harsh detergents found in laundry or dish washing soap. Dry the car using a soft towel or chamois cloth.
2Wet sand the surface scratches with 2000 grit paper. Spray the surface with water and lightly rub the sandpaper across the scratch in a crosshatch pattern until the surface is even and dull. Keep the area wet as you sand the surface to avoid clogging the paper and stop often to feel the surface with you hand and check progress.
3Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth. Spread a bead of liquid rubbing compound over the surface. Apply the rubbing compound using the orbital polisher set on low speed and keep the polisher moving across the surface to avoid burning the paint. Repeat the process as required until the paint begins to shine. Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth.
4Install a clean polishing pad onto the polisher. Spread polishing compound across the surface and apply as before using the polisher. Remove the polishing compound using a damp cloth and apply swirl remover using the polisher. Polish the surface until the shine is restored and the scratches are gone.

How to Remove the Door Handles From a Chevy S 10
A properly working door handle makes for an important part of your Chevy S-10 if you do not want to get into your truck like a "Dukes of Hazzard" television star. The metal used to manufacturer the brackets on the door handle, known as "pop steel," is a relatively soft metal usually used on low-wear items. Over time, however, the brackets can become weak and eventually break.
Instructions

Open the door, and remove the screws that secure the inner door panel to the sheet metal on the inner door with a screwdriver.
2Pull on the upper left corner of the door to loosen the door panel from the sheet metal. Small plastic tabs connect the door panel with the sheet metal about every 10 inches. As you pull on the panel, pull the tabs out of the sheet metal.
3Locate the back of the door handle by looking through the upper holes in the sheet metal. On the left side of the door handle, youll see a long bar connected to a piece of metal on the side of the handle. The bar moves when you lift up on the handle and opens the door latch.
4Remove the metal bar from the left side of the handle by pulling the bar to the left. (The bar is not attached with bolts.)
5Lift up on the handle from the outside door, and remove the two bolts located under the handle with wrenches. The bolts secure the handle to the sheet metal on the outside of the door.
6Pull the handle out of the door.

How to Remove Seat from Volvo 850
The Volvo 850 is a compact car produced by the Swedish auto maker between 1992 and 1997. You can remove the seats from a Volvo 850 at home, saving yourself some money on labor. The upholstery on the 850 tends to crack and wear out quickly, thus requiring removal for re-upholstery. You only need a few simple tools to complete this job. It should only take about an hour to remove all the seats from the vehicle.

Pry up the plastic caps on the side rails on the front doors using a flathead screwdriver. Remove the screws underneath the plastic caps using a Phillips-head screwdriver.
2Locate the two rail caps at the bottom rear of each front seat. Slide the caps off the rails by hand. Find the four bolts on each of the seat rails and remove them with a socket wrench.
3Slide the front seats back on the rails and lift them up and out of the vehicle.
4Lift up and forward on the rear seat cushion to remove it from the vehicle.
5Release the latches near the rear-seat headrests using a flathead screwdriver. Pull the seat backs out of the vehicle.

How Is Platinum Extracted From a Catalytic Converter
Complete Removal of Catalytic Converter From Vehicle
In order to extract the platinum from within a catalytic converter, the converter must be removed completely from the vehicle. Most catalytic converters simply bolt on to a vehicles exhaust system with a series of threaded bolts. Loosening and then removing these bolts with a simple socket wrench allows for a catalytic converter to be pulled (removed) from a vehicle. If time is of the essence, a cutting torch can be used to simply cut the metal attachments linking a catalytic converter to a vehicles exhaust system, allowing for fast catalytic converter removal.
Removal of Catalytic Converter Catalyst Material
Platinum, which is used as a catalyst accelerant material inside most modern catalytic converters, is located deep inside a catalytic converter. It serves as coating on top of the main catalyst elements. The elements that ignite incoming exhaust gases that pass through a catalytic converter, otherwise known as catalyst elements, look like chunks of burnt charcoal. These catalyst pieces, which become white-hot in response to incoming exhaust gases, are coated with platinum to speed up the rate at which they heat up and burn exhaust gases. To remove the platinum coating on the catalyst pieces, the catalyst pieces must be removed from the converter. This is done simply by turning up the catalytic converter lengthwise and pounding on one end with a blunt instrument until the catalyst pieces start to fall out of the lower, open end of the converter.
Platinum Coating Removal
Once the platinum-coated catalyst material has been removed from a catalytic converter, the platinum can be removed from each individual piece of catalyst. The platinum, which appears as a silvery, bronze color located on the outer surface of each piece of catalyst, can be picked and peeled off by hand or by using a flat-head screwdriver or pair of box cutters. The platinum normally flakes off in small pieces or nuggets. As each piece is chipped off, it can be set aside and placed on a clean towel or rag. Complete platinum removal from the converter catalyst material should take 30 to 45 minutes for a standard-sized catalytic converter.

3Place a tarp over your car. Tarps provide protection against outdoor elements. According to WyoTech, if you have no other choice than to park your car outside in the elements, extend the life of the vehicle and protect the car locks from freezing by putting a tarp over it.
4Use a battery-operated lock de-icer. Trying a de-icer in the locks is one way to unfreeze your frozen car locks, according to DeAnza College. Place the de-icer probe into each frozen door lock and press the "On" button. The probe will begin to heat and unfreeze the lock. You can purchase a battery operated lock de-icer at automotive and hardware stores.

The iconic Chevrolet Bowtie symbol is prominently displayed in two locations on the 2011 Silverado; in the center of the front grille and the center of the tailgate. The emblem in the center of the grille is cast into the grille itself and cannot be removed or separated from the grille. The emblem in the center of the tailgate is affixed with double-sided body tape and can easily be removed with a heat gun and plastic scraper. While the emblem is a popular symbol with many owners, some prefer to remove or de-badge their trucks for a cleaner, more simplistic look.

Wash any dirt and debris from the tailgate with a clean rag and bucket of soapy water. Rinse the soap from the tailgate with clean water and dry the tailgate with a lint-free cloth.
2Connect your heat gun to an extension cord so your movement isnt restricted. Adjust the temperature dial to a medium setting.
3Warm the emblem and the area around the emblem with the heat gun for one to two minutes.
4Insert a clean plastic putty knife in between the emblem and the tail gate. Pry the emblem away from the tailgate while still applying heat with the heat gun. Remove the emblem from the tailgate.
5Wait four to five minutes for the tailgate to cool to room temperature. Remove any remaining adhesive with paint-safe adhesive remover and a clean, lint-free towel. Dry the area completely with a lint-free towel.

Choose a new suspension kit ideal for the use of the vehicle. If the vehicle is driven in non-winter months, choose an air-filled suspension system, which will allow air to be added and removed depending on the season. This type of suspension is usually better at handling increased weight while providing a comfortable ride year round.
2Add weight to the back of truck with sandbags. The rear weight not only assists in leveling the truck but also provides additional traction.
3Install the new front end suspension kit following the included instructions or consult with a automotive repair facility.
4Attach the plow to the truck.
5Fill the suspension system with air, using an air compressor until the truck is level.
6Release air pressure from the suspension system when the plow is removed from the vehicle.
