How to Stop Vibration in My Harley Dyna Wide Glide
In the last few years Harley riders, especially riders of Dyna Wide Glides, have reported improperly installed and defective rubber front motor mounts. The part has never been recalled and Harley-Davidson has never admitted the parts might be defective or improperly installed. Besides inspection of the mounts, and replacement if necessary, Harley also recommends aligning the motorcycle by loosening, but not removing, all motor mount bolts and running the engine for five seconds, during which time the mounts align themselves to the frame. The bolts are then re-tightened to manufacturer specifications. While Harley recommends the realignment, the procedure is rarely done because the mounts usually need to be replaced anyway.

Instructions

      1Make the motorcycle upright and level by slightly elevating the Wide Glide on a motorcycle jack. Do not elevate the bike. The front tire should remain within an inch of the ground.
      2 Unfasten the two bolts that secure the voltage regulator to the frame near the bottom of the down tubes with a socket wrench. Do not disconnect the voltage regulator from the wiring harness.
      3 Remove four of the six front engine mount bolts. Remove the stabilizer link bolt and three bottom lower plate bolts. Use the Service Manual for your motorcycle to identify these bolts if you are unsure.
      4 Position a wood block on top of a scissors jack. Slide the jack and block of wood under your engine. Raise the jack approximately a half-inch.
     
    5 Break loose the two upper plate bolts with a 9/16-inch deep well socket and a breaker bar. Remove the bolts with the same socket and a ratchet.
     
    6 Remove the motor mount plate. Remove the motor mount. Wipe all exposed surfaces around the mount clean with rags and solvent.
     
    7 Replace the motor mount plate and position the new motor mount. Replace and finger tighten all six mounting bolts.
     
    8 Lower the scissors jack. Remove the scissors jack and wood block.
     
    9 Tighten the two upper plate bolts to 33 to 38 foot-pounds with a torque wrench. Tighten the stabilizer link bolt to 33 to 38 foot-pounds. Tighten the lower plate bolts last, to 33 to 38 foot-pounds of torque with a torque wrench.
     
    10 Re-bolt the voltage regulator to the frame with a socket wrench.
     
    11 Support the motorcycle while you lower the motorcycle jack. Allow the bike to rest on the jiffy stand.

How to Replace a Window Stop

A window stop is a component found within the door panel of each car door on your vehicle. Its purpose is to stop the window when its in the down position. If the window stop needs to be replaced, the window will not automatically stop in the correct position when being rolled down. With the proper tools and instruction, you can replace a broken window stop in your vehicle.

Instructions

    1

    Locate the screws holding the door panel on. Unscrew each screw carefully, setting the screws aside in a secure place (such as in a bag or container). Remove all screws before attempting to remove the door panel.

    Take hold of the back of the door panel on the bottom and gently but firmly give it a sharp tug. The bottom clip should come free. Do the same for all of the door clips, which will be located along the bottom of the panel. Pull backward on the panel and in a slightly upward direction to lift the door panel away from the door.

    Locate the screws that hold the speaker in position, if applicable (there should be three). Unscrew the speaker screws and carefully remove the speaker from its hole.

    Remove the broken window stop, which should be a square shape and may be made out of plastic. It is typically located in the empty speaker hole.

    Put the window in the down position with approximately 5 cm of the window sticking up above the top of the door panel (this allows for the window to be in the proper position for installing the new one for all vehicles). When rolled down, the window will be visible inside the door through the speaker hole. The bottom of the window should be fairly close to the window stop screw hole, so that the window stop can be properly installed.

    Put the Allen key into the hexagon screw for the new window stop. Fit the washer over the screw. Locate the window stop hole, an empty screw hole, within the empty speaker space. Hold the old window stop up to the empty screw hole and ensure that it fits to confirm that its the correct hole. Position the new window stop screw into the hole but behind the glass carefully within the empty speaker space. When the window is in the proper down position, you will be able to see the bottom of the window inside the speaker hole; the window stop must be in a position to prevent the bottom of the window from going down any farther or past the window stop. Tighten the screw by hand, then tighten it using the Allen key to secure it in place.

    Test the window to ensure that it goes up and down properly and that the window stops in the proper position. If the window stop has been installed correctly, the window will stop in its normal position when rolled down. If the window does not stop in the correct position, go back and again tighten the hexagon screw on the window stop, repeating the testing process.

    Put the speaker back into place and secure it with the speaker screws.

    Roll the window all the way down. Place the top corner of the door panel above the door. Align the reinforced lip of the door panel over the inner lip of the door. While making sure the lip stays in position, bring the back of the panel down. Once the panel is hooked on the door, it should slide forward and into the proper position. Check to ensure that the screw holes line up. Push the door clips into place. Put the screws in the door panel to re-secure the panel.

Few things are more annoying than discovering your car locks are frozen. Car locks become frozen and hard to unlock when the temperature outdoors hits freezing. Preventing your car locks from becoming frozen, by properly lubricating the car locks and protecting them from the harsh outdoor elements, is a must if you want to keep your vehicle in tip-top working condition.

    Lubricate key holes with WD-40 Smart Straw. Flip the straw on the can up and spray the WD-40 into each car lock. Use a cloth to catch and clean any of the solution that spills out of the lock. According to the Smith Consulting Group, lubricating all doors and trunk locks with lock lubricant will help prevent them from freezing. You can purchase WD-40 Smart Straw at an automotive or hardware store.

    Park your car in a garage. Garages offer protection from harsh winter elements. If you dont have access to an attached garage, you can buy a portable garage or park your car in a public parking garage. You can buy a portable garage at hardware stores.

    Place a tarp over your car. Tarps provide protection against outdoor elements. According to WyoTech, if you have no other choice than to park your car outside in the elements, extend the life of the vehicle and protect the car locks from freezing by putting a tarp over it.

    Use a battery-operated lock de-icer. Trying a de-icer in the locks is one way to unfreeze your frozen car locks, according to DeAnza College. Place the de-icer probe into each frozen door lock and press the "On" button. The probe will begin to heat and unfreeze the lock. You can purchase a battery operated lock de-icer at automotive and hardware stores.
