How to Replace the Starter on a 2002 Camry

The starter on the 2002 Toyota Camry is a cylindrical piece located on the lower part of the engine on the drivers side of the vehicle. Its positioned between the transmission and transmission cross member and is bolted to the bell housing. The starter is responsible for the initial cranking power needed to turn the engines pistons.

Instructions

    1

    Remove the negative battery cable connector from the battery with a crescent wrench. This cuts off power to the Camrys starter.

    2

    Remove the wiring harness from the starter solenoid by pulling the wire connector off the male connector on the solenoid.

    3

    Disconnect the black grounding wire from the side of the starter by removing the bolt with a crescent wrench.

    4

    Remove the three bolts that secure the starter to the bell housing with a 9/16 socket.

    5

    Pull the old starter out of the bell housing and then place the new starter into the bell housing.

    6

    Bolt the starter in place.

    7

    Reconnect the ground wire to the side of the Camrys starter.

    8

    Reconnect the starter solenoid wiring harness.

    9

    Reconnect the negative battery cable.

The 1993 Camry is a sedan manufactured by Toyota. If your Camry is stalling and wont start up, there is probably a problem with your cooling system or the engine coolant temperature sensor. These two problems are not difficult to repair, but could require the help of a service technician. Adding coolant to your system may be the quick fix that you need; however, a broken ECT will need professional service.

Instructions

    Pop the hood to your 93 Camry from the hood latch on the side of the cars grill. Locate the cooling system, which is on the left side of the engine.

    Look at the fill line on the cooling systems tank. Fill the cooling tank with 50/50 coolant; make sure you reach the fill line on the side of the tank. You should always use 50/50 coolant when possible, but you can temporarily use water if you run out.

    Try to start the car. If the car will not start, use a voltmeter to test the ECT. The ECT is on the left side, at the back of the engine. It is a small, green box with two wires coming off it.

    Connect the testing leads to the (+) and (-) terminals and then try to start the car. Watch the reading on the voltmeter. If the reading starts to go up and down erratically, you need to have a service technician replace the ECT.

The taillight assembly on the Toyota Camry is a single assembly unit. The bulbs are accessible from the trunk, and the taillight assembly is removable for replacement or cleaning. 1997 Toyota Camry: How to Change the Timing Belt

If your 97 Camry is backfiring, sluggish or idles poorly then your timing belt may be bad. A timing belt ensures that the camshaft and crankshaft valves work together with the pistons, and having a broken or damaged timing belt can be hazardous to your car and very costly. Making sure that you have a properly working timing belt before things go very wrong can save you a lot of time and money in the end.

Instructions

Remove the timing belt

    1

    Disconnect the negative battery cable. Lift your car up with a jack and support it with jack stands. Remove the lower engine cover as well as the right inner fender cover. When youre done with that lower the car back to the ground.

    From the top of the car, remove the bolts holding the alternator in place then pull out the alternator by hand. Take out the coolant reservoir.

    Remove the serpentine belt by first removing the pivot bolt on the left corner of the engine block. Then loosen the tensioner adjustment bolt which is located under the tensioner pulley. Pull off the tensioner belt.

    Raise the car back up and and take off the right engine mount. Keep the car raised.

    Get your spark plug socket and remove the spark plugs.

    6

    Take off the timing belt cover. Line up the crankshaft pulley groove with the oil pump by rotating the engine to the right. Make sure the camshaft pulleys line up with the rear belt covers. You may have to rotate the engine.

    Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt. Remove the tensioner and dust boot. Remove the bolts holding the lower timing belt cover on. Take the cover off.

Installing the timing belt

    Clean the pulleys of any dirt, oil or water.

    Align the new belts front mark with the crankshaft pulleys mark. Also align the timing belts installation mark with the camshaft pulley.

    Install the pulleys. The easiest way to install them is, crankshaft, water pump, left camshaft, No. 2 idler, right camshaft and the No.1 idler.

    Compress the tensioner until the push rod and housing holes align. Reconnect the dust boot and tighten the tension bolts up to 20 foot pounds.

    Rotate the crankshaft and line up its groove with the oil pump. The timing marks on the camshaft and the marks on the rear timing cover should also match.

    Put the timing belt guide in and tighten the bolts to 21 foot pounds. Replace and tighten the upper timing belt cover bolts to 74 inch pounds. Replace the lower timing belt cover bolts to 74 inch pounds.

    14

    Reinstall the spark plugs. Put back on the right engine mount, and reinstall the serpentine belt. To reinstall the serpentine belt follow the instructions in reverse on removing the belt. Put the coolant reservoir back in. Reinstall the alternator.

    Put the inner fender back on along with the engine cover. Lower the car and reattach the negative battery cable. Start the car to make sure that the timing belt is working properly.

2004 Toyota Camry Toe-In Alignment Repair Specs

Sold in the majority of automotive markets throughout the world, Camry is a mid-sized family vehicle, manufactured by Toyota, since 1980. The factory specifications for the alignment are slightly different for all 2004 Camry models, though the toe specification is the same.

Toe Definition

    Toe is the difference between the leading and trailing inside edges of the front wheels. Wheel toe position out of specification can cause unstable steering and uneven tire wear.

Specifications

    The total toe-in specification should be 0 degrees with maximum allowable difference of 0.6 degrees. Rack end length difference should be 1.5 mm (0.069 inches), or less.

Notes

    These specifications are given for a vehicle at curb height with one-half tank of fuel. Also, the wheel toe position should be the final front wheel adjustment, performed after camber and caster adjustments.
