How to Repair a Chevy 1998 1500 Pickup Backup Light
Repairing the backup lights on the rear of your 1998 Chevy Truck requires changing the bulbs. The backup lights provide clean, white light that allows you to see what is behind you when backing up the truck after dark. The lights also provide a way for other drivers to see you backing up. The bulb used in the backup lights of the Chevy is a 2057 and is available from parts retail stores.

Open the tailgate of your Chevy and locate the two taillight retaining screws in the side of the bed where the tailgate would sit when closed. There is an upper and lower retaining screw on each taillight assembly.
2Remove the retaining screws from the taillight assembly with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the taillight assembly straight out of the body. Locate the electrical connector on the rear of the assembly, press the locking tab down, and disconnect it from the assembly.
3Rotate the backup light bulb socket counterclockwise, and pull it out of the assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket, and replace it with a new 2057 bulb. Slide the bulb socket into the rear of the assembly. Turn it clockwise to lock it in place.
4Connect the electrical harness connector to the taillight assembly. Slide the assembly into the body opening. Install the two retaining screws through the body and into the taillight. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
5Move to the opposite side of the truck and repeat the process if required. Close the tailgate.

How to Change the Fuel Pump in a 1996 Chevy Van 1500
The 1996 Chevrolet C1500 may refer to a truck or a van. The power plant for both vehicles is an eight-cylinder, 5.7L engine, which uses fuel injection. This means that the fuel pump for this vehicle pumps fuel into the engine under high pressure. The fuel pump for the 1996 Chevy is located in the fuel tank, so you must remove the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel pump.

Relieve the pressure in the fuel tank by loosening the fuel filler cap. Disconnect the cable for the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. Raise the rear of your vehicle with jack stands and drain the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank.
2Locate the fuel pump assembly on top of the fuel tank. Turn the locking ring for the fuel pump assembly counterclockwise with a drift punch and hammer. Pull the fuel pump assembly away from the fuel tank and disconnect the fuel pump from the rest of the fuel pump assembly.
3Pull the fuel pump away from the bottom support and pull it into the attaching hose. Pull the fuel pump out of the connector. Ensure you dont damage the fuel strainer and insulator while removing the fuel pump. Remove the O-ring.
4Install a new O-ring on the fuel pump assembly. Attach the new fuel pump to the hose without twisting the fuel strainer. Place the fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank and turn the locking ring for the fuel pump clockwise until its tight.
5Install the fuel tank and lower the vehicle with the jack stands. Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Tighten the fuel filler cap.

How to Locate a PVC Valve in a 2006 RAM 1500
The PCV valve is one the most important aspects of the emissions control system. The valve recirculates unburned gases and fresh air into the crankcase, allowing for cleaner burning of the fuel. The PCV valve is a simple plastic valve that flexes with the pressure of the engine, allowing for more or less unburned gases to pass through. The 2006 Ram 1500 followed similar designs with the placement and operation of the PCV valve. You should check the valve every 30,000 miles, and replace it, as necessary.

Trace the air filter tubing. The PCV valve connects to this, remotely, through black tubes.
2Trace the black vacuum tubes to the PCV valve. The tubing may route through the brake booster on some models.
3Pull the tube off of the PCV valve, to verify you have located it properly. The 3.7L and 4.7L PCV valves mount directly onto the oil fill spout. The 5.7L places the PCV valve directly on the intake, behind the throttle body. The PCV valve is a basic plastic component about two inches in length. Some are L-shaped.
