How to Install a Billet Grille on a 2002 Camaro

How to Install a Billet Grille on a 2002 Camaro

You can install a billet grille on your 2002 Camaro right from home with a few tools that can be purchased from any hardware store if you dont already have them on hand. The Chevy Camaro was introduced in the 1967 model-year to compete with the Ford Mustang. A billet grille has slats in it in order to allow air and moisture to circulate while at the same time protecting the radiator from damage by rocks and other debris. Remove the old grille first then follow these directions to install the billet grille.

Instructions

    1

Lift up the hood of your Camaro and prop it open with the safety bar.

    2

Ask a helper to hold the billet grille on the front of the vehicle while you attach the bolts through the holes with a socket and ratchet.

    3

Lower the hood of your car.

95 Camaro Turns Over Wont Start

95 Camaro Turns Over Wont Start

If you have a 95 Camaro that will turn over but wont start, there are several things that you need to check before you have it hauled to a service shop. Since the motor cranks over you can be sure that you do not have a dead battery--if the battery were dead, the motor would not crank. You can also be sure that your starter and your alternator are functioning. The problem could be a clogged fuel filter, a faulty engine coil or low fuel.

Instructions

    1

    Turn the ignition to "on."

    2

Allow the gauges to pressurize and then check the fuel level. If you have enough gas to start the car, it might be that the gas gauge is faulty, and you should have it checked. If you dont have enough gas to start the car, add one gallon of gas.

    3

Try to start the Camaro again. If the car starts, you need to replace the fuel gauge.

    4

Get a mechanic to change out your fuel filter. Mechanics have specialized tools for changing out fuel filters.

    5

Have the mechanic check your engine coils. If an engine coil fails, the car will not be able to start properly.

Information on Changing the Pinion Seal on a 1982 Camaro

The 1982 Chevrolet Camaro rear differential has a pinion bearing located in the very front of the differential, where the driveshaft connects to the pinion yoke. The gear lube is held in at the pinion bearing with a pinion seal. Due to the tremendous stress placed on the pinion seal, its not a matter of if it fails, but when. Once it does and you have a leak, you should replace the seal immediately to avoid damaging the rear end gears. Any Camaro owner with a solid grip on auto repair can handle this job in around an hour.

Instructions

    1

Drive the back tires of the Camaro onto the car ramps, then set the parking brake. Slide the drain pan under the front of the Camaros rear differential, centered under the union between the driveshaft and differential. Place the jack stand on the other side of the driveshaft from your position, about 6 inches away from the end of the driveshaft toward the other side of the Camaro.

    2

Unbolt the driveshaft from the pinion yoke with the socket set. Hold the U-joint firmly in place, and wrap electrical tape around its perimeter to keep the U-joint caps from coming off. Rest the end of the driveshaft on the jack stand so it doesnt pull loose from the transmission.

    3

Slide the pinion yoke out of the driveshaft by hand, and set it aside. Remove the old pinion seal with the seal puller, which you can buy at your local auto parts store if you dont have one.

    4

Align the Camaros new pinion seal with the pinion opening in the Camaros differential. Place the 2-inch socket over the seal until the sidewalls of the socket line up with the edges of the seal. Tap the end of the socket with a rubber mallet so it drives the socket against the seal, which in turn drives the seal into the differential.

    5

Slide the pinion yoke into the differential by hand. Bolt the driveshaft end to the pinion yoke after removing the electrical tape. Move the drain pan and jack stand before driving the Camaro off the ramps.

How to Replace Camaro Axle Bearings

How to Replace Camaro Axle Bearings

The axle bearings on a Camaro play a primary role in how the vehicle moves. They enable the wheel to move freely during travel. Over time these parts will begin to become worn and can break, requiring replacement. An indication that the axle bearings need to be replaced is if you can hear a thumping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. If this problem occurs, then you need to replace the bearings immediately. If left untreated, this can cause serious steering issues for the vehicle. You can save money by replacing the axle bearings yourself.

Instructions

    1

Lift the vehicle with a car jack to access the wheels. Use an impact wrench to remove the lug nuts from the wheel then pull it off the Camaro.

    2

Use an Allen wrench to remove the brake calipers from the brake discs. Hit the drum brake gently with a hammer until it loosens. Remove both the brake calipers and the drum.

    3

Take the axle out of its casing by removing the four axle nuts with a socket wrench.

    4

Remove the old bearings, taking note of their positions. Insert the new bearings. Use the old bearings to gently tap the new ones into their proper positions.

    5

Reattach the axle to its casing. Securely fasten the bolts in place. Mount the brake calipers and drum brakes firmly back onto the vehicle.

    6

Remount the wheel onto the Camaro and attach the lug nuts. Repeat the process on all four wheels. Once complete, test the vehicle in a quiet area to ensure the new bearings are fitted correctly.

How to Replace the Front Spring on a 88 Chevy Camaro

How to Replace the Front Spring on a 88 Chevy Camaro

Coil springs provide absorption for varied road conditions, allowing a vehicle to have a smooth ride. When the springs are compressed for prolonged periods of time, they eventually lose their original length, causing the ride to suffer. Replacing the front springs on a 1988 Chevrolet Camaro requires a few specialized tools and should only be done by experienced mechanics.

Instructions

    1

Place blocks under the rear wheels so the prevent the vehicle from rolling when raised. Lift the vehicle with a hydraulic lift and place the two jack stands under chassis structural points behind the front wheels. This will cause the front wheels to sag due to the pressure of the coil springs and shocks. Lower the lift and reposition it under the control arm. Lift until the wheel is raised to is normal position.

    2

Remove the lugs using a 1/2-in. ratchet wrench and socket lug. Place the lugs in the wheel and slide the wheel underneath the vehicle for extra safety. Use the appropriate sized Allen wrench to remove the retainer bolts for the brake caliper. Remove the caliper and and place it on a box or brick to prevent it from pulling the brake line. Locate the wheel hub assembly and remove the two bolts located on the flange of the lower and upper control arms. Remove the hub assembly and place to the side.

    3

Use the 1/2-in. ratchet wrench and appropriate-sized socket to remove the front shock. Pull the shock away from the control arms and place to the side. Slowly lower the hydraulic lift under the lower control arm to allow the spring to release compression tension.

    4

Remove the lift and place the coil spring compression tool inside the coil spring. Adjust the tool arms to grip on the spring and tighten the compression bolt with an adjustable crescent wrench.Tighten the compression tool until the spring can be removed from the control arm mounts. Slowly loosen the compression tool to remove it from the spring. Installation of the new spring is opposite of removal.

How to Check OBD I Codes in a 1985 Camaro

How to Check OBD I Codes in a 1985 Camaro

You can check the OBD I codes on your 85 Camaro right from your home garage using a small, handheld device called an OBD reader. The On-Board Diagnostics computer in the Camaro receives trouble codes sent to it from sensors positioned throughout the car. When one of these sensors detects a malfunction, it sends the code to the computer which, in turn, alerts you to a problem by illuminating a warning or service light on your instrument panel. You can read and clear the codes using an OBD reader which can be purchased from any auto parts store.

Instructions

    1

Locate the OBD reader port on the underside of the drivers side dashboard to the left of the steering column. Plug the OBD readers cable into this port. You may have to rotate it to make it fit into the port because it only plugs into it in one direction. Just make sure you dont force it in or you may damage the pins inside.

    2

Put the key into the ignition and turn it toward you one click to the "ACC" or accessories position.

    3

Turn the power switch on the OBD reader to the "on" position. Wait while the reader interfaces with the computer. When it has finished, it will display the alphanumeric trouble codes on the readers screen. Write down these codes and look up their meanings in the OBD readers manual.

    4

Unplug the OBD reader from the port and turn off the vehicle. Have any necessary repairs or servicing done based on the diagnostic codes you retrieved.
