Types

If a battery is known to be rechargeable, then it likely can be reconditioned. There are several types of batteries that can be reconditioned, such as lead acid batteries. Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries can also be reconditioned.

Method

The method for reconditioning a battery will vary according to battery type. For example, sulfur build up keeps lead acid batteries from working correctly. Because of this, they can be reconditioned using Epson salt. After the salt is heated, it is poured into the battery to clean out the sulfur.

Warning

Some batteries, such as the Li-Ion type, may require that you contact its manufacturer before attempting to recondition it. Using the wrong procedure to recondition a battery could damage it beyond repair.

The Center for Auto Safety (CAS) has recieved numerous consumer complaints concerning Mazda RX-7 seat belt failure and airbag defects. Seat belts failing to properly restrain passengers have been an issue for Mazda since 1977. In newer Mazdas, airbags have been trouble prone, states Clarence Ditlow of the CAS.

Recalls

The 1990 Mazda RX-7 airbags have never been recalled, according to Consumer Guide. However, Anapol Schwartz attorneys list a recall of 1990 Mazda RX-7 frontal airbags. According to the attorneys, threaded inflator components of the airbags may have been damaged during assembly. This may have allowed airbag components to separate when deploying the air bag. The separation in the faulty airbags allows hot combustion gases to escape into the passenger area, which could result in injuries.

Models

According to Edmunds, both side and curtain airbags come stock in all 1990 Mazda RX-7 models, including the Base, GTU, Turbo, GXL and 2+2 GXL.

Tests

The Mazda RX-7 of 1990 has no safety test information available about the airbags from either the NHTSA or IIHS.

The B10 transmission, officially referred to as the BA 10/5, is a light duty, rear-wheel drive, manual transmission designed by Peugeot in France and used by Jeep in the late 80s. It looks similar to Jeeps heavier-duty, AX-15 transmission except it is smaller in size.

The BA 10/5 transmission was used in numerous 6-cylinder Jeep models, including Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, Comanches, Wagoneers, CJ2As, CJ31s, CJ5s, CJ6s, CJ7s, CJ8s, Jeepsters, Scramblers and Wranglers (in 4.0L models from 1987 to 1989 and in 4.2L models from 1987 to 1990).

General Description

Unlike the AX-15, which uses a one-piece, aluminum case, the BA 10/5 features a two-piece, aluminum case that is split lengthwise, and held together by upper and lower bolts. It features a 1 1/8-inch input shaft with an output spline of 21 or 23. As indicated by the "5" in its name, it is a 5-speed transmission.

BA 10/5 Gearing

This transmission features a factory gear-ratio of 3.39 for first, 2.33 for second, 1.44 for third, 1.00 for fourth and 0.79 for fifth gear.

The 1982 Chevrolet Camaro rear differential has a pinion bearing located in the very front of the differential, where the driveshaft connects to the pinion yoke. The gear lube is held in at the pinion bearing with a pinion seal. Due to the tremendous stress placed on the pinion seal, its not a matter of if it fails, but when. Drive the back tires of the Camaro onto the car ramps, then set the parking brake. Slide the drain pan under the front of the Camaros rear differential, centered under the union between the driveshaft and differential. Place the jack stand on the other side of the driveshaft from your position, about 6 inches away from the end of the driveshaft toward the other side of the Camaro.

Unbolt the driveshaft from the pinion yoke with the socket set. Hold the U-joint firmly in place, and wrap electrical tape around its perimeter to keep the U-joint caps from coming off. Rest the end of the driveshaft on the jack stand so it doesnt pull loose from the transmission.

Slide the pinion yoke out of the driveshaft by hand, and set it aside. Remove the old pinion seal with the seal puller, which you can buy at your local auto parts store if you dont have one.

Align the Camaros new pinion seal with the pinion opening in the Camaros differential. Place the 2-inch socket over the seal until the sidewalls of the socket line up with the edges of the seal. Tap the end of the socket with a rubber mallet so it drives the socket against the seal, which in turn drives the seal into the differential.

Slide the pinion yoke into the differential by hand. Bolt the driveshaft end to the pinion yoke after removing the electrical tape. Move the drain pan and jack stand before driving the Camaro off the ramps.
