How to Reset Airbag Lights in 97 Jeep Wranglers

The airbag light, or SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) light, will illuminate on the instrument cluster of your 1997 Jeep Wrangler when there is a malfunction in the airbag system. Have your vehicle towed to your mechanic to have it checked out and repaired before attempting to drive it again, and before you reset the light. Once the issue has been addressed you can reset the light yourself to save time and money. You must purchase a code scanner to get the job done. An auto parts store may let you borrow its scanner for free.

Instructions

    1

Place the key into the ignition and turn on the vehicle, but dont let the engine turn over.

    2

Find the diagnostic port under the steering wheel. This port will be the same size and shape as the connective end of your code scanner. Carefully plug the scanner into the diagnostic port, taking care not to force the plug in. If you force it, the pins inside could be damaged. The vehicles battery will power on the scanner.

    3

Use the arrow keys on the scanners keypad to scroll through the menu options. Find the "delete" or "reset" option and select it. This will turn the SRS light off. Unplug the scanner and turn off the vehicle.

    4

Wait 60 seconds, then turn the engine on. Observe the instrument cluster to verify that the airbag light is off.
