Car Alloy Wheel Repair

Repairs to your cars alloy wheels can cost hundreds of dollars if you have them done in a garage, and they can leave you without wheels while they are getting repaired. You can repair scuffs, dents and scratches yourself if you have a modicum of previous knowledge about car maintenance. The work can be quite challenging; so if you find yourself struggling, ask for some help from someone who has experience with wheel refinishing.

Instructions

    1

Apply some paint thinner to the rag, and scrub the entire alloy wheel to remove any buildup or dirt and debris.

    2

Put a small amount of auto-body repair filler putty on a putty knife, then fill all of the damaged areas on the alloy wheel. Allow the filler to fully dry before gently sanding off any excess filler with a small sander. You can get filler putty and a putty knife from most hardware stores.

    3

Apply masking tape on the areas of the alloy that you do not want paint applied to. Masking tape will help prevent paint leaks from getting on other areas of the alloy wheel and tire.

    4

Spray the alloy wheel with the primer, making sure to give it a thorough coat over the recently repaired areas. Allow the primer to fully dry before applying a second coat of primer spray. Remove all of the masking tape after allowing the second coat to dry. Spray a tiny amount of primer over the obvious primer edges revealed when you removed the masking tape.

    5

Apply more masking tape to the tire to protect the areas you dont want paint applied to. Spray a thin layer of your chosen color over the alloy. A thin layer will help prevent the paint from running. Apply a second coat once the first coat has dried. Remove the masking tape once finished.

    6

Wipe over the alloy with a rag to remove any dirt or dust left on the alloy wheel.
