Open the driver side door of the Ford vehicle. Look to the side of the drivers side door to find a series of letters and numbers. This is the VIN. Some Ford models have the VIN under the hood, next to the battery.

Log onto the Internet and direct your browser to the Ford Parts website (see Resources).

Enter the VIN of the Ford into the VIN information box. Wait for a list of parts for that Ford, along with the Ford part number indicator.

Go to a Ford dealership that has a maintenance and service department if you do not have access to the internet. Bring the VIN of the vehicle and give it to the desk clerk in the service and parts department. Ask the clerk to print out the parts number you need for the Ford vehicle.

Note the first three numbers. They provide information about the specific Yamaha model for which the part was an original component. For instance, "111" might refer to a specific motorcycle model manufactured in 1985.

View numbers four through eight. They represent the part type. The first of the five numbers provides information about the overall part category, such as engine. The next four numbers provide details about the actual part, such as the specific engine part.

Take note of the ninth digit. This number differentiates similar parts, which may come in a variety of sizes or identifying characteristics.

Look at 10th digit. It signifies any changes to the part. For instance, a "0" may indicate that it is the original part whereas a "1" may indicate the first modification of the original.

Note the final two digits. Where applicable, they refer to the color --- the eleventh digit --- or the size of the part --- the twelfth digit.
